Shanon D. Irwin

Shanon Dale Irwin, a man of strength, unwavering loyalty, and a Marine to his core, stood his final watch on March 19, 2025. He left this world as he lived-honorably, surrounded by his loved ones, and forever faithful to those he cherished. Shanon was born in Davidson County, Tennessee, on April 4, 1974. From an early age he carried the values of hard work, integrity, and service-qualities that defined his life as a Marine, a devoted husband, and a loving father.
After graduation from Hickman County High School, Shanon served in the United States Marine Corps and later joined the National Guard. Shanon was a lifelong resident of Centerville and dedicated his entire career to serving and protecting his community. After his military service, Shanon spent a total of 27 years in law enforcement.
He served with honor and distinction as the Chief of Police for the Town of Centerville. A role in which he earned respect and admiration from his colleagues, citizens, and fellow law enforcement officers. Shanon was more than an officer, he was a mentor, a leader and protector of the values that made Centerville a tight-knit community.
Shanon married the love of his life, Sydney, in 1996, and together they built a loving home filled with laughter, kindness and shared values. Shanon cherished his role as a father. His family was his greatest joy, and he always made time for them even in the midst of his demanding career.
Shanon's greatest passion was Georgia football and good food. Family vacation destinations were decided upon based on what good restaurants were around. More than anything else Shanon enjoyed camping on the Tennessee River with his family. His love for the outdoors was about the sense of peace it gave him and the memories he created with those he loved.
Shanon is predeceased by his grandmother Bernice Gordon. Shanon is lovingly remembered by his devoted and patient wife of almost 30 years, Sydney Irwin of Centerville, Tennessee; his children, Cole Irwin of Smyrna, Tennessee, Wyatt Irwin of Centerville, Tennessee and Hannah Irwin of Centerville, Tennessee; mother Deborah (Ted) Graves of Lyles, Tennessee; father Elmer (Angelina) Irwin of Nashville, Tennessee; sister Shelly (Eric) Blyberg of Hazel Green, Alabama; mother and father-in-law Randel and Brenda Totty of Duck River, Tennessee; brother-in-law Ty (Shanee) Totty of Duck River, Tennessee; sister-in-law Ginger (Nick) Dearman of Centerville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews include Alexis Blyberg of Hazel Green, Alabama, Trenton Blyberg of Fort Mead, Alabama, Ethan Blyberg of Hazel Green, Alabama, Mika Totty of Duck River, Tennessee, Selena Totty of Duck River, Tennessee, Savannah Dearman of Centerville, Tennessee, Addie Dearman of Centerville, Tennessee and Nate Dearman of Centerville, Tennessee; aunt Sandy (Shannon) Buck of Pegram, Tennessee, aunt Glenda Corkin of Alabama; uncle Dale Gordon of Hickman County, Tennessee, and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
Chief Irwin's dedication to his country and community will never be forgotten. He served with honor in the United States Marine Corps and spent his career as a law enforcement officer, always putting others safety above his own. His legacy of courage and sacrifice will continue to inspire those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
