Cleveland, Virginia -- Sharon Parrott Artrip, known as "Granny Sharon" or "Boo Boo" to many who loved her, age 78, joined her parents and siblings in Heaven on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
She leaves a legacy of unconditional love and devotion to her family and friends. She was known for her kindness and generosity and was always eager to help someone in need. Acts 20:35 says "I have shewed you all the things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive." In her last days, her concern was for her family and friends, and who would take care of them when she was gone.
A lifelong resident of Russell County, Va., Sharon was born November 27, 1946, the daughter of Banner and Grace Parrott. She graduated from Cleveland High School and then became a professional hairdresser. In later years she began working for the Russell County School System and retired as a cafeteria manager.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, William Banner and Grace Marie Kiser Parrott; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Carole and Ronnie Gordon; brother, Tommy "Butch" Parrott; beloved nephew, Ronnie Max Gordon Jr.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul "Doug" Artrip Sr; daughter and son-in-law, Joie and Scott Parrott; son, Paul D. Artrip Jr., his girlfriend Samantha Mayhew, her children, Kelsey and Tyler Salyer and Tyler's baby, McKinley; granddaughter, Carrie Kiersnowski and husband Matthew; grandson, Russell Parrott; great-grandchildren, who have been the light of her life for the past 13 years, Landon and Erin Kiersnowski. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Owens Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, in the Parrott Sutherland Family Cemetery in the Carbo section of Russell County, with Pastor Jim Pratt officiating.
Sharon's granddaughter is a type 1 diabetic, and she always loved supporting her in raising money for type 1 diabetes research. In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly on the website (https://www.breakthrought1d.org/ways-to-give/) or sent to Joie Parrott, 107 Cambridge Circle, Bristol TN 37620.
