Sharon Courter was born January 23, 1945. On February 19, 2026, a beautiful heart beat its last beat, having given everything it could for those she loved. She was a devoted follower of Jesus whose life was marked by compassion, service, and a love that made people feel at home. Sharon loved her family deeply and cared for others with the heart of a true servant. Many remember her as "everyone's mom"-the one who noticed needs, stepped in quietly, and took care of others before herself.

Sharon was known for her cooking, especially Sunday meals shared with family around the table. Over the years, a lot of people have eaten well at community fundraiser meals because Sharon was in the kitchen, doing what she did best-feeding people and caring for them in the process. She spent much of her life advocating for individuals with disabilities, standing up for others with steady dedication. Sharon enjoyed gardening and keeping busy, always doing something for someone. She was also an avid DIYer who always seemed to have a solution for just about every problem. And she rarely passed up a sweet treat-especially a hot fudge sundae or Jamocha almond fudge.

Sharon was preceded in death by; her parents, Newton and Dorothy Courtney; husband, Joseph Courter; her brother, Newton Courtney, Jr; her son, Charles Courter; and her fiancée, Carl Lanham.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Courter of Versailles, Missouri; her son, Chad Courter and wife Teresa, also of Versailles, Missouri; and her grandchildren, Joseph, Madison, Lydia, Hadleigh, and John.

Sharon's legacy is one of faith, strength, and selfless love-an example that will continue to shape and bless the many lives she touched.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. A visitation will also be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 2nd, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home in Saint Joseph, Missouri. A private family graveside service and inurnment will be held. Memorials may be left in her memory to UCP of Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
