Sharon Kay Kessell, of Hyndman, PA, passed quietly at home on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cumberland, MD, on January 27, 1952, Sharon was the daughter of the late Walter F. Files, Jr. "Rabbit" and Norma (Robinette) Files.
A 1970 graduate of Allegany High School. Sharon was a member and attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo Mills, PA. Sharon worked at Lazarus, Gehauf's Restaurant, Brock Steel and Potomac Valley Pharmacy. It was at Potomac Valley Pharmacy where Sharon would meet her husband of 31 years, Jim.
Sharon's life revolved around family and friends. When asked her greatest accomplishment in life she would always answer with "my boys". Sharon was blessed to be a fulltime grandmother.
Sharon is survived by her husband, James L. Kessell and three sons: Bryce M. Wallizer and wife. Lindsay, Cumberland. Leland C. Kessell, and fiancé Julie Thornton, Hyndman, and Garrett F. Kessell, Pittsburgh, PA. Sharon is also survived by her grandchildren: Holden and Althea Wallizer, Cumberland. Surviving sisters and brothers are: Diane Stakem and husband, Michael; Sue Lewis, and Walter F. "Buddy" Files III and wife Teresa, all of Cumberland. She is also survived by many loving aunts, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
The family has been blessed to have the love and support friends: Louis and Linda Lindner, Norma Clark, Annette Bishop, Terry Shober, Carol Jackson and the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church and Our Lady of the Mountains Parish through this treatment.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, June 29, from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
A funeral service will be conducted by Vicar Penny Koontz and Rev. Ryan Viands on Friday, June 30, at 10AM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Park.
The family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Patricia Sheetz and staff, Hillman Cancer Centers in Pittsburgh and Altoona, and Grane Hospice. A special thank you to the pharmacists, management, and the team at PharmaCare for adjusting your lives to allow Jim to fully participate in Sharon's treatment and be at home during the past several weeks.
