Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roberts of Ocala Downtown Chapel on Dec. 22, 2025.
Sharon Koontz McClellan passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, surrounded by her family, in the Ocala home she cherished for more than 40 years. Born on August 29, 1942, in
Ocala, Florida, Sharon spent the majority of her life in the community she loved. Her dearest memories centered around her husband Edward, her children and grandchildren, her siblings and extended family, and the many friends who filled her life with love.
Sharon graduated from the University of Florida in 1964, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. After marrying Edward, she spent several years as a schoolteacher before welcoming their first son, Madison, in 1967. Their daughter, Mollie, arrived three years later and completed their family of four. Sharon's greatest joy came from raising their two children, never missing Madison's sporting events or Mollie's horse shows.
Sharon enjoyed playing tennis and golf, attending Bible studies with dear friends, boating on Lake Weir, and sailing in Miami. She treasured many summers spent at her cozy home in
Maggie Valley, NC, where she shared countless rounds of golf, card games, martinis, and homecooked meals with her mother, husband, friends, children, and grandchildren. Sharon expressed her love through cooking and baking, imaginative stories told with childlike wonder, and her ability to make every Christmas feel magical. She adored Elvis Presley and classic country music, the stream in Maggie Valley, a beautiful cocktail glass, Florida Gator football, and the many dogs she and Edward had over the years, especially Shula and Coach. Above all, she devoted her life to the people she loved, particularly all those who called her Lovey.
Sharon was preceded in death by the love her life and husband of 60 years, Louie "Edward" McClellan Jr; her beloved son Madison B. McClellan; her parents Madison S. Koontz and Ruth P. Koontz; and her sister Kathy Koontz Snyder. She found peace in knowing she would be reunited with these loved ones and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her daughter Mollie McClellan Akes; her granddaughters Madison K. McClellan, Mackenzie K. McClellan, and Madeline Sharon Akes; her brother Michael P. Koontz (Diane); her daughter-in-law Emily B. McClellan; her nephews; and many dear extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home of Ocala (606 SW 2nd Ave).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to HUGS Charities of Ocala, which provides temporary assistance to individuals who are actively in treatment for a cancer diagnosis and experiencing financial hardship
