Sharon Leonne Person, 90, passed away peacefully in Kemah, Texas on June 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on April 21, 1935 in Butterfield, Minnesota, Sharon brought warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness to everyone who had the joy of knowing her. Throughout her life, Sharon called many places home. She lived in Minnesota, Alaska, California, Germany, the Washington DC area, Tennessee, Georgia, and finally Texas, where she spent nearly the last decade close to the Howren, Methvin, and Treece families. Wherever she went, she created a sense of home rooted in comfort, laughter, and love.
She was a devoted daughter to Elmer and Edna Hunstad, a beloved sister to her brother Lowell, and a faithful wife to Robert Andrew Person. Family was at the center of her world, and her relationships were the foundation of a life lived with deep connection and meaning. Sharon had a vibrant spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Her grandchildren remember countless sleepovers at Nana's house filled with snacks (offered whether you said yes or not), arts and crafts, embroidering in front of the TV, and all sorts of shenanigans. She had a saying for nearly every occasion, and one of her favorites was her signature toast, "The night is but a puppy," reminding us all that it's never too late to keep the fun going. She was a lifelong lover of animals, especially her beloved dogs Penny, GeorgeJohn, Sheba, Doc, Heidi, and Grand dogs Lexie, and Angel. Each one was a cherished companion and a source of constant companionship and affection. She approached life with honesty, compassion, and a playful spirit. She never hesitated to laugh at herself and always made people feel welcome, seen, and loved.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Edna Hunstad; her husband Robert Person; her son Craig Person; her daughter-in-law Joanie Person; and many other cherished family members. She is survived by her brother Lowell, her children Reid Person, Callie Leonard and husband Chris, and Sandra Howren and husband Michael; her grandchildren Alex Person, Ben Person, Tori Leonard, Andrew Leonard and wife Kyler, Kelcie Howren and husband Ronald Treece, and Kara Methvin and husband Caleb; and her great-grandchildren Jaxson, Derek, Ryan, August, and Palmer. Each of them carries forward a piece of her spirit.
She will also be remembered fondly by the extended Howren, Leonard, and Person families, as well as by the many friends and neighbors whose lives were brightened by her presence. Sharon lived with purpose, laughed often, and loved without condition. May we carry forward her joy in our hearts, her kindness in our words, and her grace in the way we choose to live.
