Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home & Cremation CentreDr. Sharon Anderson Schurer, beloved teacher and friend, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Beaches Baptist Hospital. Born on May 11, 1945 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Sharon was an only child to Vera and Vance Anderson. She graduated from New Smyrna High as its 1963 Salutatorian. At the University of Florida, Sharon was active in Chi Omega sorority; she graduated in 1967 with a B.A. in English. Sharon's 31 years at Fletcher High School were spent teaching 11th grade Honors English; sponsoring National Honor Society; and overseeing the Northeaster newspaper. Her students appreciated her wit, sarcasm and intellect.
Outside the classroom, Sharon and her good friend, Pamela Kirkland, were genuine Anglophiles, relishing their many trips to England. Before Sharon's retirement, she earned her doctorate from UNF, proudly becoming Dr. Schurer. Sharon loved her church, St. Paul's By-the-Sea Episcopal, and volunteered in many capacities. Sharon also loved the Gators, her Afghan hounds and especially The Rolling Stones!
Sharon is predeceased by her son, Scott Schurer.
Sharon's Memorial Service will be on Tusday, December 2, 2025 at St. Paul's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida at 2:00 pm.
