Kalona-Sharon Rae Stumpf of Kalona, aged 82, passed away peacefully in her Kalona home on Monday, December 30, 2024 after a most courageous encounter with cancer.
Sharon was born on September 21, 1942, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to Victor Charles and Cecelia (Holmes) Malichky. She attended Holy Trinity School in Richmond, Iowa, and went on to graduate from Kalona High School in 1960. After high school, Sharon attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids, later teaching beauty classes herself at an institute in Cedar Rapids.
In time, Sharon began her own business in Washington, Iowa: The Artistic Beauty Salon. On April 11, 1964, she was united in marriage to Arlis Dean Stumpf at Holy Trinity Church in Richmond, Iowa.
Sharon cherished God’s infinite love and her Catholic faith. She loved every facet of life. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and visiting with friends. Sharon had a special way of letting a person know that they were loved by her. Her witty and honest humor always roused laughter.
Sharon is survived by her sister, Joan Kleopfer of Kalona, and her sister-in-law, Jeanne Malichky of Kalona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her special daughter Alicia Gayle in 2009, her husband Arlis in 2011, her brother Victor (Bud) Malichky Jr., and her brother-in-law Alphonse (Zeke) Kleopfer.
Sharon will be greatly missed by her friends and acquaintances, especially Kathy and Savannah, who were like daughters to her.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 am, Friday, January 3, 2025 at Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Deacon Derick Cranston will be officiating. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Sharon and her arrangements.
