On a bright summer day in the late 1930's in Ludhiana, Ajudhia Parkash, Parvati Devi, and Ravinder Nath Goyal welcomed a beautiful Laxmi into their home. Though originally named Gurbachan Kaur (Bachho), she would be known as Shashi. She would be the light of her family, bringing warmth, grace, and love wherever she went.
She started her family with Amrit Lal Mittal welcoming three Laxmis of her own: Kumud (Pawan), Anshu (Vishal), and Angda (Dharmesh). During her 60-year marriage, she created a warm and welcoming home full of love, laughter, and delicious meals. She was blessed to remain close to many cousins and doted on her nephews and nieces as a second mother. Every relationship she had was enriched by her affection, wisdom, and grace.
She created cross-stitch masterpieces for her family and knitted sweaters for her grandkids. She loved to watch movies and do the daily Sudoku and Word Jumble in the paper. But by far, her favorite pastime was playing cards, especially Rummy. Woe be to her opponents!
Her greatest joy was being Nani to Sonali (Ryan), Pranav, Viraj, Nikhil, Sanam, and Reina; and Par-Nani to Kairav & Kamran.
She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her children and husband. There remains a debate on what will be missed most: her Kadhi or Aloo Gobi. But without a doubt, her gentle grace will be missed by all.
