Shaun P. Welsh

Shaun P. Welsh, 61, of Newark, Delaware left us unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1962, and was a graduate of Ridley High School and Widener University. Shaun was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated military man. He had an unwavering commitment to the United States Military and proudly served our country in both the Army and Navy, for a total of 36 years of service. During his military career, he was stationed in Kuwait, Senegal and Fort Hood, Texas, where he served as a medic during the 2009 mass shooting. Shaun was currently employed as a representative with Gainwell Technologies. He attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, and his interests included reading, classic movies and history. Shaun loved all animals, but had a special affinity for cats, including his cherished cat Jasmine.
He was predeceased by his father, James R. Welsh; his cats, Muffin, Smokey, Coco, Dexter, Jack, and Nala. Shaun will be dearly missed by his wife of 37 years, Maria Lyn (Orlanda) Welsh; his children, Barbaraluz "Barbie" Welsh and Michael J. Welsh. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Hazel (Taggart) and Larry Anderson; his brothers, Robert Welsh, David Welsh and wife, Tanya, and Patrick Welsh; his sister, Tara DeMarco and husband, Charlie; his half-sister, Mary Anderson; his nieces and nephews, Alexis, Nicholas, Olivia, Jack and Stephen.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, September 25 from 11:00AM – 12:30PM, immediately followed by a Catholic funeral service. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, October 2.
