With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shawn Cernik, a proud son of Maryland and a Texan at heart, who left us unexpectedly on August 23, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on July 9, 1975, Shawn lived life with a relentless spirit and an adventurous soul, always eager to embrace the next challenge.

He spent much of his life working in construction, a career that allowed him the freedom to travel and explore the country. Most recently, he found purpose and pride in solar panel installation in Eastland, Texas, where he continued to build a better future for himself and others.

Shawn had a deep love for the great outdoors. Whether he was hitting the trails on his motorcycle, spending quiet days hunting, sharpening his aim at the range, or enjoying a round on the golf course, he embraced life with enthusiasm and grit. He was hard-headed and strong-willed-never one to back down from a challenge-but those who knew him best will remember the compassion and loyalty he carried beneath his rugged exterior. He was always ready to lend a hand to those in need.

Shawn is survived by his parents, Barry and Patricia Cernik of Bowleys Quarters, MD; his brother, Christopher Cernik of Havre de Grace, MD; nephews Chase and Cole Cernik; aunts and uncles: Wayne and Barbara Cernik of Pennsylvania, Dean and Lynn Collins of Middle River, MD, Charles and Nancy Collins of Middletown, MD, and Beatrice Draper of Middle River, MD; ; as well as many cousins, close friends, and his beloved dog, Leda "Tater."

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Shawn's life at the family-owned Evans Life Celebration Home, 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234. A Receiving of Friends will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
