Shawn Edward Kiser

Shawn Edward Kiser, 50, of Jane Lew, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 at UH-Geauga Hospital in Ohio after suffering for 6 months from an atv accident. He was born in Weston on June 10, 1975, son of the late Janet (Ratliff) Kiser. At a young age, Shawn was cared for and raised by his aunt and uncle, Catherine and Buck Ratliff of Alum Bridge and their children, Jim Ratliff, Judy Jerden, Janet Rinehart, and Jay Ratliff.

Cherishing their memories of Shawn are his children, Shawna, James, and Chase Kiser, brothers, Rocky and Rick Smarr, sisters, Debbie Gordey and Tami Goulet, sister in law, Nancy Smarr, aunt and uncle, Barbara and Jim Squires, several nieces ,nephews, and cousins, and his constant companion, his dog named Buddy, who was truly his best buddy.

In addition to his mother, Shawn was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Chris Smarr.

Shawn was a graduate of Lewis County High School. He was Catholic by faith. Shawn was an avid sports fan, faithfully watching his favorites, including the Green Bay Packers and WVU. He enjoyed fishing and going out to eat at restaurants, where he eagerly awaited his picture being taken in front of the restaurant to post it on Facebook. Shawn was known for all his electronics, his favorite being the many flashlights he had collected over the years.

Family and friends will gather at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue of Weston on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Father Gary Naegele as celebrant.
