Sheila Yvonne Harrison Samms
Sheila Y. Samms was born in Kingston Jamaica W.I. on March 25, 1939. The only child of
Phyllis Harrison and Johnny Harrison. She attended school at Mount Alvernia Preparatory
School, Saint George's Girls School, and Alpha Academy Girls High School. She migrated to the
U.S.A. in 1959 and soon met and married Byron Samms Sr. in 1960. In 1972, Sheila worked for
N.Y.C H.P.D Housing Preservation and Development as a Real Estate Manager for 25 years
ensuring tenants received emergency repairs, heat, hot water, and a safe environment to live, she
retired in 1997.
Sheila loved God and always followed the right path. She donated to St. Jude’s and always offered
the Daily Word devotional magazine to friends and family. Music was her passion: she had a
massive collection of soul, R&B, reggae, soca, and jazz on vinyl and CD. Sheila loved travel,
fashion, tending to her plants, and most of all her husband Byron Samms of 65 years.
Sheila leaves to Cherish her memory of her husband Byron Sr, Carey, Byron Jr, Michael,
Antoinette, Kayla, and Ava
Cousins: Fay Chen, Lorna Gordon, David Hilman, Ewan Smith, Peter Chin Irwin Brown, Ivan
Brown Carol Hilman, Marie Hilman, Margaret Hilman, Cheryl Thomas, Carol Smith,
Kerry-Ann, Dwayne, Brian Andrian Gordon.
