Shelby Cason

Shelby Jean Herring Cason, 85, of Hayes, earned her angel wings on September 30, 2025. She was a native of Albermarle County, VA, born to the late Ollie Bane Herring and Vandilla Williams Herring. Shelby was known to many over the years as a hairstylist and teacher of Cosmetology. After moving to her forever home in Bena, Virginia, Shelby began styling hair out of her home salon for her many dedicated clients. She was a fun and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Les enjoyed traveling to Florida and Nashville, always on the go, saying, "I have to keep these legs moving, no time to stop." She fought a long battle with Crohn's, which only caused a detour in her travel plans. Shelby was a member of Union Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Leslie Marvin Cason, and brother Ollie B. Herring, Jr., of Charlottesville. Shelby is survived by her devoted daughter, Renee Cason Powell, a loving son-in-law, Ronald Hull Powell, and her only granddaughter, Jessica Renee Powell, who was the apple of her eye. A sister, Shirley Roberts, of Charlottesville, three sisters-in-law, Shirley Motley of Prospect, Margie Davis (Ronnie), of Earlysville, Lois Gilbert, of Stanardsville, and a host of nieces and nephews that she adored. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Chuck Winner will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Holly Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
