Sherman E. "Gene" Bryant, age 76, of Buckhannon, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born on December 25, 1949, in Charleston, WV a son of the late Sherman Leo Bryant and Sarah Frances Hutchinson Tufts. He was united in marriage on September 20, 1970, to Karen Sue Kehl Bryant, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2006. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Becky and husband David Thomas, Pam Thomas, Rosemary Wigmore, and Frances Marie (Sis) Martin; one brother, Joe and wife Juanita Bryant.

He is survived by three children: Timothy and Lora Bryant of French Creek, Melissa and Scott Horner of Beverly, OH, and Matthew and Katina Bryant of Buckhannon; grandchildren: Brittany, Joshua (Morgan), Christian (Randee), Elijah (Lacey), Leah, Katie (Thomas), Niyah, Brooklyn (Aaron), Drake, Jacob, and Josh; great grandchildren: Jasmine, Sawyer, Grayson, and one on the way, Michael; one brother, David Bryant; one sister, Debra Sue and Kevin Hunnings of Merritt Island, FL.; brothers-in law: Ronnie Thomas, Al Wigmore, and Scott Martin; sister-in-law, Candy Kehl.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved his grandchildren. He was an avid mountaineer fan.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 11-1:00 PM, the funeral hour with Rev. John Elbert officiating. Following the services the family has honored his wishes for cremation and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
