On Thursday, July 31, 2025, Sherman Guyton took his eternal rest, at his earthly home surrounded by his family. We can imagine his smile as he was met at the gate, singing his way into his heavenly home. Sherman was born on August 30, 1969, in Anderson County to the late Frank Guyton and the late Linda Marie Rainey Guyton.
Sherman was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His love for his family, friends, and the community, was always on full display. Sherman was the consummate host and entertainer. With a smile on his face, and without any hesitation, he would open his home for everyone to spend quality time together. He took pride in making his home a gathering place where love and joy were present.
Sherman found immense enjoyment in sharing his talents. Outside of his family, Sherman's greatest happiness was music. His voice was truly a gift from God, and he used that gift to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. His love for spreading the gospel could be felt in every note, in every song. We know he is at peace singing in the heavenly choir.
Sherman was a master of the grill and kitchen, spending countless hours cooking for his family and friends. He was also an avid football fan. On Saturdays in the fall, he enjoyed watching the South Carolina Gamecocks, and on Sunday's everyone knew they could find him wearing his jersey and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.
He was a 1987 graduate of McDuffie High School. After high school, Sherman attended North Greenville University, in Tigerville, SC. Though he recently retired, Sheman worked his entire career in manufacturing, much of that time at BMW.
Sherman was a member of New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as President of the Male Choir and member of the Leadership Council. He also was a member of God's Chosen, spending some of his final hours here on earth with his fellow members preparing to minister to others through song.
He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Vanessa Regina Grate Guyton, daughters, Shamari Guyton and Shernessa Guyton, sons, Brandon (Tiara) Grate, and Malik Grate; brothers, Stephen Rainey, Kelvin (Michelle) Rainey, Frank (Geraldine) Guyton, Jr., and sister, Yolanda (Reggie) Guyton Ellis; aunts, Wanda Rainey and Jenny Rainey, Parents-in-law, Nathaniel and Paulette Grate, brother-in-law, Cedric (Phyllis) Gleaton, sisters-in-law Cheryl (Charles) Blackburn, Teresa (Chris) Dennis, and Crystal Grate, and a host of grandchildren, other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Guyton and Linda Marie Rainey Guyton, grandparents, Walter and Gennieve Rainey, Andrew and Ada Hammonds, John Guyton, and one grandson.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7
