Sherman JOHNS Obituary

Sherman L. Johns, son of Clarence Johns, Sr. and Delois (Black) Johns, was born July 20, 1952, in Lenox, Missouri and departed this life September 25, 2025, at his home in Lebanon, Missouri, with his loving family by his side.

On February 6, 1981, Sherman was united in marriage with the love of his life and partner in everything, Joyce Garnett. Having been together since 1977, the memories they made over the years were countless. They shared love and laughter, triumphs and tears, side by side, while raising their four children.

Sherman made a profession of faith in Christ early in life and at the time of his passing, was of the Baptist faith. In fact, he became ordained later in life so he could officiate for his son's wedding.

Sherman worked hard to provide for his family. Over the years, he was a butcher and also worked for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, as a bottler for a period of time. However, most of his working life, he was an over the road truck driver.

When he wasn't working, you could find him outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He was also meticulous about his lawn and enjoyed mowing. He built stock cars and also enjoyed watching them race. Above all, he was a family man. His devotion to them was unmatched. He adored Joyce and made sure she knew it. He was a wonderful father, even learning to scuba dive with his daughter. He was the best grandfather, proud of each of his grandchildren and their various accomplishments. His heart was huge and the needs of others came first. He even played Santa Claus for many years, for his employees and their children. Spreading joy made him happy.

Sherman is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Samantha McCord (Justin Parker,) of Lebanon, MO, Daniel Johns (Audrey) of Salem, MO and James Johns of Rolla, MO; four grandchildren, JoyAnna McCord, Blake McCord, Weston McCord and Kaitlynn Johns; adopted brothers, Art Whitley (Kay) of Paragould, AR and Dave Yoebstl (Flo) of Rolla, MO and their families; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Riley (Linda) of Kansas City, KS, Jacob Thurman of Missouri and Shiela Garnett of Rolla, MO and their families; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and countless friends.

Those preceding him in death include his parents; one brother, Harold Johns; and one son, David Johns.

Sherman was so many things to so many people. Although admittedly a touch ornery, you never had to wonder where you stood with him. He was a constant jokester, always in good fun. Nothing compared to the time spent and precious memories shared with his family. They were his deepest joy and greatest accomplishment. He will be deeply missed.

In honor of Sherman, memorials have been suggested to the Free Store Ministry.
