Sherry Kay Munson

The southwest corner of the intersection of Smith Street and Broadway in Yorktown, Indiana may not seem like sacred ground to the patrons of Mr. Mouse, the popular tavern that occupies the site now, but it is revered by the family of Sherry K. Munson, who was born at that location on September 2, 1930 to Les and Helen Mendenhall. Back then, a house rather than a bar stood there. (The house still stands, though now at a location on Cornbread Road.) A plaque commemorating Sherry's birthplace occupied space on the wall of "The Mouse" for a number of years following her 75th birthday.
Sherry passed away peacefully on the afternoon of December 3, 2025 with her surviving son present. She was in the care of the excellent staff at Muncie Estates. Her caregivers, like anyone who knew Sherry, loved her, and she loved them.
When she reached a point when she required the help of a walker to get around, Sherry (a lifelong teetotaler) would offer an explanation to anyone who saw her using it: "I fell off a barstool at the Red Dog."
In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Munson, a son, Andy Munson, and her brother, Howard "Skip" Mendenhall. She is survived by a son, Bruce (with Tacha Golliher),; grandchildren Erin Munson Spain, Tyler Munson, Hayley Munson Greiner (husband, Joe), Cody Panszi, Nick Munson, Jessica Munson Kalmback (husband, Nick), and Lauren Munson; great-grandchildren Aiden Spain, Jake Spain, and Jonah Spain, Liam Greiner and Reese Greiner, and Owen Panszi; sister, Judy Harris; daughter-in-law, Belinda Munson; dog, Chloe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sherry's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, with the Rev. Teri Crouse officiating,
Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Sherry's ashes will be interred at Elm Ridge Mausoleum at a later date.
