Sherry Lynn Smith

Sherry Smith of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the age of 70. She was born on Saturday, August 20, 1955 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Cleta Faye (Rains) and James Holland Gudgel.
She was a longtime resident of Durant, Oklahoma. She married Darell Smith on June 16, 1972 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma.
Sherry enjoyed sewing, working outside in the yard, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father James Holland Gudgel; brother Jamey Gudgel; brother-in-law Larry Shipman; and uncle Robert Gudgel.
Survivors include her husband Darell Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; daughter Missy Stricklen of Durant, Oklahoma; son Jason Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren Emily Wilkey and husband Dustin of Durant, Oklahoma, Lucas Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; mother Cleta Gudgel of Durant, Oklahoma; sisters Brenda Shipman of Durant, Oklahoma, Gina Rogers of Durant, Oklahoma; special nephew Andrew Shipman of Durant, Oklahoma; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, other extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at First Baptist Church, 124 Evergreen Street, Durant, Oklahoma with Randy Moore and Bro. Michael Moody officiating. The family requests that everyone wear their favorite color, and write down their favorite memory of Sherry and bring it to the service for the family to enjoy later.
