Shirley A. Auton, 79, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on July 15, 2025, in Zephyrhills, FL.

Shirley was born on November 22, 1945, in Dade City, FL, to the late Johnnie and Lessie Mae Carpenter. She was a devoted wife to Byron E. Auton, whom she married on August 31, 1953, in Nahunta, Georgia.

A lifelong resident of Dade City, Shirley dedicated her career to education, serving as a teacher at Grace Christian Academy in Dade City. She was known for her practical nature, unwavering strength, and deep care for others. A stoic and independent woman, she was also a loving caregiver whose presence brought warmth to all who knew her.

In her free time, Shirley enjoyed reading and playing board games, finding joy in simple, meaningful moments. She will be remembered as a strong, compassionate woman who lived a life centered on love and service.

She is survived by her two daughters, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and other loved ones who will cherish her memory always.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Byron E. Auton; and her siblings, Madeline, Gladys, Joe, and Eloise.

No services are planned at this time. Hodges Family Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements.
