Shirley William Baird, age 82, of Chilton passed away on June 1, 2010 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born May 20, 1928, near Melrose, WI, son of the late Irvine & Olga (Arneson) Baird. Shirley was a graduate of Melrose High School, class of 1946. Following graduation, he enrolled in the Farm Short Course in Madison for DHIA Milk Testing. He began milk testing in Brown County where he met his wife, Rosemary Tilque. He and Rosemary were married on June 18, 1949 at St. John the Baptist Church in Howard. In 1952, the couple moved to Chilton and Shirley continued to do milk testing for 4 more years. He began working for Wisconsin Public Service as a gas serviceman and after 34 years of service, he retired in 1990. During his life in Chilton, Shirley also worked as a part time deputy for the Calumet County Sheriffs Department and was a former president of the Calumet County Deputy Sheriffs Association. In 1972 he started Westside Sales, where he sold tires and repaired cars. This was Shirley's favorite past time and he continued his hobby until May of 2007. In his retirement years, he also enjoyed traveling with his wife to many places in many different areas. Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Rosemary; his children: Richard (Bea) Baird, Ginny (Gerry) Buechel, Pat (Mike) Miller all of Chilton, Sue Baird of Neenah, Judy (Melvin) Mathes of Chilton; 10 grandchildren: Chris (Jamie) Baird of Green Bay, Nickole Burr of Eau Claire, Staff Sergeant, USMC, Mark (Chrystal) Baird of Ramona, CA, Mindy (Alberto) Guardado of Oceanside, CA, Lynda (Randy) Karls, Jeff (Stacey) Buechel, Dan (Stacy) Buechel, Shelley (Phil) Schlude, all of Chilton, Jason Miller of Kaukauna, Brad Miller of Chilton; 11 great grandchildren: Danielle & Heather Karls, Dylan Buechel, Gavin & Ty Buechel, Makenna Schlude, Sierrah, Winter & Tallon Baird, Elizabeth & Alberto Guardado; 1 step great grandchild: Courtney; a sister: Alice Stuhr of Melrose; 2 brothers: Merlin (Janice) Baird of Melrose, Don (Ruth) Baird of Galesville; and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Frances Tilque of Spokane, WA, Elmer Tilque of Appleton, Lawrence (Barbara) Tilque of Howard, Kathleen Pikulski of Olean, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Robert & Michael Baird; brothers & sisters-in-law: Don Stuhr, Don Tilque, Ed Pikulski & Jeannette Tilque. Funeral service will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 4, 2010 and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 AM until 11:15 AM. A vigil service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Shirley W. Baird.
