Shirley Ann Barcelona

Shirley Ann Barcelona, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at 5:40 pm at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma diagnosed on July 21, 2022. Born on August 17, 1944, Shirley's life was defined by her deep love for her family, remarkable strength, and selfless spirit.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Angelo Barcelona Jr. with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion and cherished memories. She was a nurturing mother to her three sons: Angelo Barcelona III, Anthony J. Barcelona, and Vincent M. Barcelona, who were the heart of her world. Shirley's love extended to her grandchildren: Blake A. Barcelona, Shelley A. Barcelona, Laine D. Barcelona, and Micah S. Barcelona; and her great-granddaughter, Mia M. Barcelona, all of whom filled her life with immense joy. She is survived by her sisters: Delores Accardo, Lee Denina, and Melba Twomey, and was preceded in death by her brother, Dallas LaCombe and sister, Mary Achor.
Throughout her nearly three-year battle with glioblastoma, Shirley faced each challenge with grace, resilience, and unwavering courage, inspiring those around her with her kindness and selflessness. Her warmth and enduring spirit will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Everyone is welcomed to attend and pay their respects for Shirley at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 10021 Jefferson Hwy. River Ridge, LA 70123 on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Visitation will begin for family at 11:30 am and for the public at 12:00 noon, followed by Mass at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 at 2:00 pm. We gather to honor Shirley's legacy, shared cherished memories, and find comfort in faith and community. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Glioblastoma Foundation at www.glioblastomafoundation.org or Shirley's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
