Funeral services for Shirley M. Brashaw, age 87, of Ogdensburg, NY, will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10:00AM at the Ogdensburg First United Methodist Church with Pastor Donna Fitchette officiating. Interment will follow at Oswegatchie Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. Brashaw passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, NY.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Cherie Leboeuf and her husband, Greg, Ogdensburg, NY, and Corlin Burrell and her husband, Matthew, of Victor, NY and her step daughter, Linda Vernsey and her husband, Tim, of Ogdensburg, NY; grandchildren, Colby Leboeuf, Christopher and Camryn Burrell, and Jason, Jon, and Jaret Langstaff, and Jade Vernsey; a sister, Sally West of Oneida, NY; two brothers, Wallace Wood and his wife, Sally, of Lisbon, NY and Larry Wood and his wife, Stephanie, of Latham, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley is predeceased four brothers, Donald Wood, Victor Wood, Gerald Wood and Douglas Wood, and two sisters, Brenda Green and Betty Brett.
Shirley was born on March 29, 1936, in Lisbon, NY, the daughter of the late Roy C. and Bernice (Day) Wood. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and the Ogdensburg Business School. Shirley married Harry Brashaw on October 15, 1965, at the Ogdensburg First Methodist Church with Rev. E. Kendall Scouten officiating. He predeceased her on January 13, 1998. Shirley was first employed by New York Telephone as a telephone operator. Shirley and her husband, Harry, transported school children for the Ogdensburg City School District for many years. Mrs. Brashaw later retired from Claxton Hepburn Medical Center as a billing clerk in 2001.
Shirley cherished her time spent with her family and friends and loved to travel. She took pride in the time she spent singing in her church choir and Knights of Columbus Showtime. Shirley was also a past member of the Claxton Hepburn Ladies Auxiliary.
The family of Shirley Brashaw extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Riverledge Nursing Home and Samaritan Summit Village for their exceptional care and compassion during her stay. Your unwavering support has provided comfort and solace to both Shirley and her loved ones during a challenging time. The family deeply appreciates the professionalism and kindness demonstrated by the entire team, making a significant difference in Shirley's well-being.
