Shirley T. Broadbent, a cherished soul whose warmth and dedication to her family and community left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on June 27, 1931, Shirley's life was a testament to love, service, and the joy of giving.
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" F. Broadbent Jr., and together they built a life rich in love and shared experiences. She was a loving mother, guiding her children Keith Broadbent (Lynn), Kathy Byers-Knapp (the late Don), Kenyon Broadbent (Jamie), and Kerry Kurchak (Rocky) with a gentle hand and a steadfast heart. Her role as a sister to Mernie Sellers (the late Mike) was filled with shared laughter and cherished memories. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elora Telford.
Her grandchildren, Becky (Brian), Lindsey (Chris), Crystal (Alan), Kristina (Kevin), Scott (Niqui), Bernadette (Tony), Kenyon Jr, Katie (Philip), Marie, Chessie (Steve), Amber (John), and Andrew (Ellen), will forever hold in their hearts the special bond they shared with their grandmother. Shirley's love extended to her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. Her gift for connecting with children was especially treasured by her grandchildren, who adored her for the special attention and care she showed them. She was also a dear aunt to Dana, Grant, and the late Scott, all of whom felt the warmth of her affection.
Shirley's interests and contributions to her community were as vibrant and varied as the quilts she lovingly crafted. For over two decades, she served as a concessions manager at the Great Geauga County Fair, where her attention to detail and strong work ethic were on full display. Her retirement years were spent in Mission, TX, where she remained active in her church community, knitting and organizing items for the Appalachia Kids. Shirley's huge heart and love for donating to those in need were hallmarks of her generous spirit.
In the 1960s, Shirley stood beside Bill as he took on the role of director of the Maple Fest in Chardon, Ohio, further demonstrating her commitment to her community. Her involvement in civic clubs showcased her passion for service and her ability to lead with grace.
Shirley's life was a beautiful patchwork of dedication, love, and service. Her memory will be lovingly stitched into the fabric of the lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, a family that adores her, and a community that is better for her contributions. Shirley T. Broadbent will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date – please check back for further details.
