Shirley Jean Chermak died peacefully February 15, 2025.
Shirley was born to William and Mattiebelle Brown on June 30, 1933. In January 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Chermak. Together they had four children: Barbara (Andrew) Johnson, Patti O'Keefe, John (Barb) Chermak and Suzanne (Craig) McDonough.
Shirley worked several jobs over the years, but her favorite jobs were those of Grandma and Great-Grandma. Shirley had seven grandchildren: Daniel (Tina), Nicole, Sarah (Dan), Amanda (Jared), Dallas, Dillan (Brandi) and Kaitlin (Dederic), and eleven great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to many of their extracurricular events. As Grandma and Grandpa, Shirley and Frank took their {then} four grandchildren on a trip to Florida. There were plenty of adults who envied the grandkids that trip!
Shirley loved attending and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play in all sports. She and Frank attended several Bowl games. Final Four events in field hockey and women's basketball and occasionally received an invitation to attend an end -of -season banquet. She had luncheons with "the girls" from Inches A Weigh, and dinners with the Widow/Widower's Club, of which she was a former board member. Shirley had wonderful neighbors who kept a friendly eye out for her, as she kept a friendly eye out for them.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, her beloved husband of 54 years, and one great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oldorf Hospice House, whose staff took wonderful care of Shirley in her final days.
Pursuant to her request, private graveside services were held.
