Shirley Jean Keller Doherty, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully went to Heaven on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Shirley was born on September 29,1944 in San Antonio, Texas. Also known as "Jeanie", she excelled in school, played volleyball, and enjoyed many Girl Scout adventures with her mom as her troop leader. This was a special activity she would later continue as a Girl Scout leader for her own daughters and the legacy expanded to a 4th generation with her granddaughters.
Shirley graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School and always treasured her special group of friends from school. She worked at USAA where she met her future husband, Michael (Mickey) Doherty, in 1963. They were married on June 24, 1967. Their deep love for each other and God continued to be an inspiration to their family 55 years later.
Blessed with a talent for creating beautiful things, Shirley used her gift to bless others with her oil paintings and crocheted blankets and hats. She also created her own sewing patterns to make clothes requested by her daughters and enjoyed delighting family with specialty theme cakes. Most of all, Shirley will be remembered for her sense of humor and beautiful smile that brought joy to every gathering.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 55 years; two daughters Michelle Noel and Debra Doherty Wine, M.D. and son-in-law Charles Travis Wine; grandchildren Emily Noel, Caitlin Noel, Drew Noel, soon to be born Brayden Wine, and her sister, Mary Catherine Owens. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Otto Keller, and brother, Leroy Keller.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on February 18, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8500 Cross Mountain Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255. We will continue to celebrate Shirley's life with a reception in the church hall after Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations in Shirley's memory to be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or a charity close to your heart.
