Shirley Jean Allen Fogleman, age 84, of Roxboro passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 5, 2025. Jean was born on October 30, 1940 in Person County, North Carolina to Felton Hosea Allen, Sr. and Myrtle Jeffries Oakley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bernard Merritt Fogleman, her youngest son, Mitchell Blake Fogleman, and stepbrother, Edward Oakley.
Jean graduated from Roxboro High School in 1959 with the accolade of having perfect attendance her entire school career. This commitment carried over into her adult life as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean married the love of her life, Bernard, on March 16, 1962, and they became entrepreneurs, owning several businesses together, including Boulevard Kwik Pik & Car Wash, Fogie's, and Silver Saddle. She was a meticulous bookkeeper and an integral part to the success of their businesses.
Jean was a faithful and active member of Brookland United Methodist Church (now New Brook UMC) until her health declined. She and Bernard cared deeply for their community. Following their retirement, they provided a weekly Senior Night on Thursday evenings in Roxboro that was always an enjoyable time of music, fellowship, and plenty of coffee. Jean was committed to continuing this even after the passing of Bernard. With the help of her grandchildren, she was
able to host this weekly event up until her health no longer allowed.
Jean's grandchildren were her true pride and joy. She loved nothing more than having them in her home. She enjoyed lots of memorable times with them as babies and young children and developed special bonds with each of them as they grew into adults.
Jean is survived by her son, Gregory Allen Fogleman and wife Amy of Durham; daughter, Pamela Fogleman Bradsher and husband Wallace of Roxboro; grandchildren: Kiersten Fogleman, Garrett Fogleman and wife Elizabeth, Caroline Fogleman, Zach Carver, Georgia Carver, Merritt Bradsher, Jessica Bradsher, Alex B. Hubbard and husband Brad, Nick Bradsher, and Blair Bradsher; great grandchildren: Ella, Rey, and Banner Hubbard; brother, Felton Hosea Allen, Jr, and stepsister, Barbara Mansfield.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Brooks and White Funeral Home with the Rev. Wallace Bradsher officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service at Person Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zach Carver, Garrett Fogleman, Ted Fogleman, Tony Fogleman, Mike Huff, and Jeff Mangum.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Linwood Wright for his constant source of friendship to Jean. They would also like to thank the staff at TerraBella in Hillsborough and Gentiva Hospice for all the love, care, and special attention that was extended.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association of Eastern North Carolina, 5171 Glenwood Avenue #101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
