Shirley Ann Frericks, age 90, of Peoria, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Shirley was born in Peoria, Illinois, a daughter to Edward and Elizabeth (Waite) Hagan on January 5, 1935. Shirley married Melvin Lawrence Frericks on August 13, 1955, in Peoria and together they cherished 68 years. Shirley graduated from Academy of Our Lady. She worked for the Office of Catholic Education as a secretary for 26 years, serving 6 diocesan superintendents of schools.
Shirley was a well-loved mother, hardworking, and devoted to her family. She was a supportive mother to her six children, volunteering in their classrooms and supporting them at various sporting events. She volunteered her time and talent to the Girls Scouts of America. She and Mel were long term members of St. Philomena Church.
Shirley is survived by her six children, Lynn Wilkerson, Michael (Sandy) Frericks, Karen (Lowell) Trammell, Daniel (Lisa) Frericks, Diane (Ken) Cooper, Kenneth (Lori) Frericks, 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Frericks (2023), three sisters, Frances E. (in infancy), Mary J. Donnelly (2003), Alice J. Alleman (2018), and one son-in-law Terry Wilkerson (2022).
Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 4, 2025 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Daniel Dionesotes will officiate and Burial of Ashes will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
