Shirley Ann (Shires) Hadfield, age 89, of Columbia, MO passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. She was born on November 20, 1935, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Chester and Helen (Shaver) Shires.

After spending her early life in Quincy, Shirley's family moved to Ewing, MO. She graduated from Ewing High School in 1953, where she enjoyed playing basketball and cheerleading. On November 20, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ramon Hadfield. They shared 64 years of love and devotion until his passing in 2023.

Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Ewing and was baptized at age 15. She shared her beautiful singing voice through the church choir and dedicated countless hours teaching Sunday School and Bible School, nurturing young hearts with patience and kindness while sharing the love of Jesus.

Shirley worked at Quincy Paper Box Company and later at Small Talk Daycare in Ewing.

Shirley was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou basketball. Shirley loved animals, her flowers, and her vegetable gardens. Most of all, she loved her family and her lord and savior Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (John) Short of Columbia, grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Short of Columbia, and sisters-in-law Connie Hadfield of Springfield, IL, Donna Hadfield of Quincy, IL and Ruth (Barr) McReynolds also of Quincy as well as several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ramon Hadfield; her parents, Chester and Helen Shires; her sister, Marilyn (Ralph) Lay; and brothers-in-law Ralph Lay, Richard Hadfield and Roger Hadfield.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Nilson Funeral Home in Columbia. A graveside memorial service will follow at a later time at Ewing Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Shirley's honor may be made to Ewing Baptist Church or to the Ewing Memorial Cemetery Fund.
