Bonnie Lou Heidy (Humphrey), age 90, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on August 29, 2025. She was born on August 25, 1935, in Montrose, Colorado, to Fred Alexander Humphrey and Matie Jane Lytle.
Bonnie attended Montrose High School before continuing her education at the University of Colorado in Boulder and later at the University of Missouri. She went on to build a distinguished career with the University of Missouri Extension Publications, where she worked from 1971 until her retirement in 1999.
Outside of her professional life, Bonnie was a woman of many passions. She was an avid birder who found joy in the natural world, a devoted square dancer, and a talented artist whose macramé and stained glass creations brought beauty to others. She also loved fishing, reading, and, most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Eric Wood and John Heidy, Marigene Holtkamp (Wood), and Karla Koskela (Heidy); her brother, Dean Humphrey; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Heidy; her sons, Stanley Wood and Michael Heidy; and her daughters, Patricia Wakeland and Paulette Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia Audubon Society or the Columbia Humane Society, causes that reflect Bonnie's lifelong love of nature and animals.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nilson-Millard Cremation & Burial Center, 5611 E. St. Charles Rd.; Columbia, MO 65202. (573) 474-8443. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.millardfamilychapels.com
