Shirley Sue Hancock, aged 78, of Gulfport, MS, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024. Born on September 11, 1945, in Benton, Arkansas, to parents Delford and Joy Goodwin, Shirley grew up in the quaint surroundings of the countryside that infused her with a lifelong appreciation for the simple joys of nature and family. Shirley's life was a testament to enduring love and dedication. At the tender age of 18, she married, and thus began building a family. A devoted homemaker, Shirley's hands were rarely still, as she was always at work tending to the needs of her family, ensuring that every meal ended with a touch of sweetness from her lovingly prepared homemade desserts. Reminiscent of the strong women who came before her, Shirley was feisty, incredibly stubborn yet remarkably resilient. In face of any challenge, she emerged stronger, her fighting spirit undimmed. She carried the unofficial title of the "Thrift Queen," a lighthearted nod to her knack for finding treasures in life's overlooked corners. Her adventures through thrift stores, garage sales, and even accidental "garage sales" were legendary, filled with laughter and the excitement of the unknown. Her husband, Jearl, passionately missed by her since his passing, is now reunited with her in eternity. She is also preceded in death by her dear parents, Delford and Joy Goodwin, and her siblings, Beulah Hall and Kenneth Goodwin. Left to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Kim (David) Arnaud, Kelli (Jonathan) Musselman, and Susan Hancock; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who lovingly remember her as "Grammy."
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation to a foundation they hold dear to their hearts, Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
