Shirley "Joanne" (Jaggers) Higgins, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Friday February 3,2023 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on Sunday, June 14, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Earl and Flossie (Hester) Jaggers.
Joanne was a member of Whitaker Baptist Church since 1960. Over the years she was involved with the Lydia Circle and the women's spiritual growth program. She loved spreading the gospel and sharing life lessons with her family. Some of the best time was spent around a card table playing bridge, poker, board games or putting puzzles together. She enjoyed genealogy, gardening, sewing, crafting and spending time with her family. Joanne was best known by her family for her home-made noodles and Blackberry Cobbler.
She is survived by daughter Jackye Briley of Indianapolis; sons Curt Higgins of Paragon and Doug Higgins of Martinsville. She has a total of 14 grandchildren; Tracye, Matthew, Lisa, Alyson, Julie, Lori, Ashlyn, Samuel, Kari, Curtis, Vincent, Mike and Brandi; 43 great-grandchildren.
Joanne is preceded in death the love of her life, husband Jack Higgins, whom she married on May 31, 1952 and he passed away on October 7, 2005; daughter, Karen Everroad; son, Michael Higgins; grandson, Travis Leonard; siblings, Lester Jaggers, Elmo Jaggers and Lois Moon.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at the Whitaker Baptist Church, 3490 South Lingle Road, Paragon, Indiana, with Rev. Charles Tinsley officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Burial to follow at Friendship Park in Paragon, Indiana. Final resting Place, Heaven.
