Shirley Ann Baugh Hooten, 83, of Mockernut Court, Columbus, died at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at her home.
Shirley was born on February 11, 1941, in Jackson Township, Decatur County, the daughter of Clarence Keith Baugh, and Emma Perle Carter. She married the late William (Bill) Hooten, on January 3, 1969, in Columbus.
She graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1959. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Her first job was as a news reporter for the Republic while in High School. She then worked in the Office Committee Union for Cummins Engine Company. Following a time of staying home she worked for Azalia Elevator, Captive Plastics, and Circle K. She retired from Circle K in 2010.
Survivors include her children, JD Cox, of Michigan, Joyce (Bill) Page, of Whitestown, Ray Cox, and Cindy (Jeremy) Thompson, both of Columbus; stepchildren, Robert Ray Hooten, Cathy Boilanger, Letty (Sam) Greer, and Wade (Valerie) Hooten; grandchildren, Brad (Valerie) Brown, Dominique Cox, Shawna (Joe) McGuire, Scott (Krysta) McQueen, Jaimee (Jacob) Pruitt, Lindsay and Liam Thompson, Amanda Dinn, Crissy (Mike) Trimnell, Sissy (Scott) Engle, and April (Dustin) Perkins; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gene (Sharon) Baugh; and sister-in-law, Lynn Baugh.
Preceding her in death were her husband, William Hooten; father and mother, Clarence Baugh and Emma Carter; siblings, Sheldon (Connie) Baugh, Steve Baugh, and Karen (Bob) Elliott; stepson, William Howard Hooten; grandson, Skylar Henrichs.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 on Monday, October 21, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 4850 W. Goeller Boulevard with Bishop Richard Croft officiating the service. Burial Will be in New Harmony Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
