Richard Kruger, age 83 was received into glory by his Lord on Thursday, August 21st after a courageous fight against cancer.
Born on November 3, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois Richard was the son of Gertrude and John Kruger.
He pursued his education at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and learning.
Shortly after graduation in 1964, he married Karen Cole. In 1986, Richard and Karen welcomed their only child Amanda into their loving home by adoption.
During a teaching career that spanned 45 years across several states including Nebraska, Illinois, and Indiana, he actively engaged in a professional journey that reflected a commitment to meaningful work and a steadfast dedication to the students and communities he served.
Richard was deeply rooted in his faith and was an active member of both St. Peter's Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran churches of Columbus, Indiana during his lifetime.
Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Richard found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid enthusiast of Johann Sebastian Bach's music, often immersing himself in its intricate harmonies
Leisure cycling provided him with moments of peace and reflection, while reading remained a lifelong passion that enriched his understanding of the world.
Richard is lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife of 61 years, Karen; daughter, Amanda (Quentin) Arnold; his sister-in-law, Arlene Kruger; his brother-in-law, David Cole; and many extended Eales and Starke family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and John Kruger; as well as his brother Kenneth.
A funeral service in honor of Richard's life will be held Saturday, August 30 at 11:30 am at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 6045 East State Street in Columbus with Pastor Douglas Bauman officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may gather at the church for visitation from 10 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers Richard and his family would be honored by your contribution to the Netherlands Bach Society in his name or any other Faith, Music, or Arts based cause close to you.
The family thanks Derika Arnholt, Heeth Jewell, Newcomers Funeral Home of Indianapolis and Reverend Doug Bauman of St Paul Lutheran Columbus for their care during this time.
May Richard's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his presence.
