LUNENBURG: Shirley H. (Hillis) Pagano, 85 of Lunenburg passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2025 at Emerson Hospital, Concord, Massachusetts. Shirley was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on August 1st, 1940. Daughter of Harold and Marguerite (Brown) Hillis.
For over 25 years, Shirley worked as a registered nurse, retiring in 2007 although she carried her nursing expertise and willingness to help others through her final days. Shirley loved a good shopping trip with her daughter and granddaughters, never denying a Saturday spent TJ Maxx and Marshalls shopping and you better believe that her cart was never empty.
Shirley's (Nonna) love extended to her great grandchildren, with whom she shared an amazing connection, Ava Patno, Christopher Patno, Brady Patno, Mylah Wnukowski and Brayleigh Wnukowski. One of her most recent greatest joys was hearing Baby Patno's heartbeat (due in March 2026).
She leaves her daughter and son in law, Lisa and Peter Patno; her son Brian Washburn of Cary, NC; five grandchildren, Derek Patno, Kaitlyn Wnukowski (Adam), Drew Patno (Maddie), Parker Washburn and Grace Washburn.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Charles Pagano and her son, Mark Washburn.
Thank you to her friends that she loved at Life Care of Nashoba Valley and the staff at Emerson Hospital. The care she received and love she felt was truly a blessing.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer, is assisting the family with arrangements
