Shirley Mae Patchin
January 16, 1937 - November 1, 2025
Shirley Mae Patchin, 88, passed away at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on November 1, 2025 after a short illness.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley's gentle spirit and unwavering kindness was felt by everyone she met. Shirley loved to socialize and lovingly touched everyone lucky enough to know her. Shirley received great joy from her many cats and provided them a loving home.
Born in Waterloo, Iowa on January 16, 1937 to Oliver and Erva Jenkins, Shirley grew up with a giving heart. She graduated from East High School, and has continued a lifelong relationship with her classmates and friends, coordinating meetings with them regularly for get togethers. On August 24, 1954, she married Jon (Jack) Patchin in Waterloo, IA. They were divorced in 1976.
Shirley worked at the Coop Oil Company, Carpenter's Local Union, Black Hawk County Sheriff's office and Child Support Recovery Unit until retiring. Upon retiring she volunteered at Country View in Waterloo as a patient advocate.
Shirley was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jill Patchin, her parents, her uncle Carl Jenkins in California, for whom she was a caretaker, and her beloved grandson, Jesse Patchin.
She is survived by her children, Mike Patchin of Hudson, Steve (Barb) Patchin of Waterloo; her beloved granddaughter April (David) Graham of Norwalk and great-grandchildren Brandon Buenger of Norwalk and Brock Buenger of Des Moines, her sister Pat Henry of Waterloo, and brother Terry (Sheila) Jenkins of Dubuque, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family invites all who knew Shirley to celebrate her life with joy, remembering the kindness she gave so freely and the love she shared by developing relationships with all she met.
Services: 11:00 AM, Friday, November 7, 2025, at United Methodist Church of Hudson, 301 Washington St., Hudson with visitation from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society. Locke at Tower Park is serving the family, 319-233-3146.
