Shirley Mae Pendergast, age 86, of Temple passed from this life during the morning hours of Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Temple Living Center East. Shirley was born on the 26th day of July 1938 in Coron, CA to parents Charles William and Mildred Evelyn (Waterworth) Cheek.
Shirley grew up in Riverside, California, where she attended most of her schooling. A few years later she would marry the love of her life, Kenneth Pendergast in Riverside, CA in July 1970, but he would sadly pass away in 1999. Shirley would uproot and move to Temple in 2015 with her family. She worked at Walmart for over eight years, where she served as a Greeter; she loved it so much! Shirley's favorite pass time was gardening, shopping, and spending time with her sister-in-law, Clara. She loved getting her hair and make-up done, buying new jewelry, and always making sure she had the newest style. Shirley's girly girl personality and the love she had for her family, will be the everlasting memories she leaves behind. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mildred, husband Kenneth Pendergast, and three brothers: Jerry, Gary, and John Cheek.
Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her In Laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery at a later date. Shirley will be laying in state at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with these arrangements.
