Shirley passed peacefully in her sleep, with her Grandson Christopher by her side. She was at her home in Edgewater, Florida.
Shirley was predeceased by her son Steven Prusak, his father Ray Prusak, her parents Dorothy and Harold Southwick, Grandparents Caroline and John Hazzard, Ava and DeWitt Southwick.
Shirley is survived by her daughter's Kim Reis (Priest) (Don), and Lynne Koudela. Grandchildren Kevin Koudela (Heather), Justin Priest (Natalie), Christopher Koudela, Sean Priest (Bethany), Nicholas Koudela (Ada) and Lindsey Koudela (Brent). Great Grandchildren Jack and Max Priest, Arlee and Averee Koudela, Delaney and Walker Priest, Eric Bennett (Emily). Great-great grandson Phoenix Bennett.
Shirley was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Jones Commercial High School in 1956, then later that year married Raymond Prusak and started raising their family. Ray's job transferred their family to South Amboy New Jersey, Creve Coeur Missouri, Brecksville Ohio, Bensalem Pennsylvania, then to Metairie Louisiana before settling in New Smyrna Beach and later in Edgewater, Florida where she's been a long-time resident.
Shirley has been a Licensed Realtor for the majority of her life. She and Ray managed Wards Ocean View Motel, New Smyrna Beach in the 1990's, they loved the beach life with their loving dog Bimbo. She then Transitioned to the Management position at Marcell Gardens Apartments in Daytona Beach through the 2000's. After retiring Shirley worked part-time at Regency Elder Care and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Fish Memorial Hospital, and later as a Breast Cancer survivor she volunteered in Radiation and Oncology at Advent Hospital.
Shirley was always looking for adventures from supervising rehab projects with her grandchildren to riding motorcycles with friends from Castaways Beach Resort. Shirley loved to travel with her daughters and grandchildren. She loved spending summers with her granddaughter Lindsey in Florida and traveling together to spend time with her daughter Kim, son in law Don and her grandchildren on their horse farm in Ohio. Shirley loved cruising with her cousin Carol Smith and traveling the world. Shirley had a wonderful long life filled with the love of family and friends. Her legacy will live on by her loved ones and she will be deeply missed.
A private celebration of life with family and close friends will be held on April 5th 2025 from 10am-2pm in Edgewater, Florida. If you would like to come celebrate with us, please contact Lynne Koudela Via text message.
