Shirley A. Smith

Shirley Ann (Dooling) Smith, 84 of Holts Summit, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City surrounded by family. She was born July 27, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of the late William and Adestie (LaFaver) Dooling. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City but attended New Bloomfield High School in New Bloomfield, Missouri until her senior year. On July 29, 1961, Shirley was united in marriage in Jefferson City, to John L. Smith, who preceded her in death on December 11, 2003.
After graduation Shirley went to work at St. Mary's Hospital for a year and a half. Then she went to work at McGraw's factory. The factory is where she met her husband, John L. Smith. She cared for her mother before her passing in 1981, as well as taking care of nieces and nephews and her own children. After the kids had started school, she returned to the workforce. Shirley worked at ABB in the kitchen working for Swanson Food Corporation for fourteen years. She also worked at the Fulton State Hospital for two years. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, reading, and watching the neighbors. She also loved her dogs.
Shirley is survived by a daughter: Teresa Rotter (husband Scott) of Holts Summit; and two sons: Ronald Smith of New Bloomfield; Kevin Smith (wife Monica) of Holts Summit; four grandchildren: Bethany Orr of Columbia; Ryan Smith of Holts Summit; Taylor Rotter of Holts Summit; Kyle Smith (wife Amber) of Holts Summit; a bonus grandson CJ Shoults of Holts Summit; two great grandchildren: Carson and Mason Orr; one brother: Jerry Dooling of Holts Summit; one sister: Catherine Nichols of Holts Summit; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother: William Dooling; and three sisters: Dorothy Branch, Mary Hatting and Margaret Hartman.
Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Slater-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Slater-Millard Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bull Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
