Mrs. Shirley M. (Fox) Smith, 95, of Mohawk Street, Fort Plain, NY, passed away on February 18, 2026, in Cooperstown, NY.

She was born on April 4, 1930, the daughter of Christopher and Thelma Gray Fox, both of whom predeceased her.

After high school graduation, she started working at Beech-Nut in the credit department. Later, she would work at the Fort Plain Central Schools, in the cafeteria, retiring after 30 years.

She was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, where she had taught Sunday School for some time. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in many chairs.

In May of 1950, she married Melvin B. Smith, who predeceased her on July 26, 2010. Together, they had celebrated over 60 years of marriage.

She was predeceased by her son Christopher Smith, brother Richard Fox; daughter in law Marie Smith.

Survivors include her son Bruce Smith, and his wife Annie, daughter Deborah and her husband Warren Williams; daughter-in-law Lorraine Smith; grandchildren Chad Smih and his wfe Brittany, Michelle Blakeslee and her husband Matt, Jessica Terrell, Austin Terrell, and Jason Smith; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Sophie, Peyton, Trent, Tori, Hannah, Nicholas and Christopher; 3 nieces, Christy Mrazz, Denise Duesler, and Nancy Martin.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at the Fort Plain Reformed Church, Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.houghtalingandhanley.com .
