Shirley Parnell Spielman was born on September 9th, 1946, and departed this life, Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. She was the daughter of Goldie Holder Parnell and Algie O. Parnell, and she was one of several siblings- Sylvia, Selma, Olma, Kenneth and Danny, who all preceded her in passing. She is survived by one remaining sibling, Ethel Turner. Though many of her loved ones have gone before her, we find comfort in the thought of them together.
Shirley was a woman of quiet strength and independence. She faced life with determination and lived it in a way that was true to herself. Her experiences and choices shaped her into the person we remember today- resilient, steady and uniquely her own.
Later in life, Shirley was baptized at Green Hill Baptist Church- a meaningful moment that reflected her personal faith and spiritual journey.
She was the mother of four children: Jenice Turner (Ronnie), who survives her. Three children proceeded in death: Mischele Doss, Tony Doss, Terry Doss. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with one daughter in law: Cindy Doss. Each of them was a part of the story she leaves behind and they continue to carry her memory forward.
As we say goodbye, we simply remember Shirley for the life she lived and the time we had with her. May she rest in peace.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 11 AM – 1 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1 PM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
