Shirley Herda Tydings

Shirley Herda Tydings, 86, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Capital Region Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born on July 25, 1936 in Niagara Falls, New York; a daughter to Henry and Olga Wasmund.
Shirley graduated high school in Niagara Falls. She continued her education at Nichols Career Center in Jefferson City where she gained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree. She spent her career working for Memorial Hospital (now Capital Region Medical Center) until her retirement in the mid-1990s. Her specialization focused primarily on medical cases. Shirley was very passionate about her career and worked as long as she was able.
Outside of nursing, Shirley enjoyed many other activities. She collected teapots, was an avid reader, her favorite genre being mysteries, and playing card games, especially hand and foot, with her friends at the retirement center. She loved her family, cherished time with them, and attended family gatherings every chance she got. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and will be missed dearly by those who know and love her.
Shirley is survived by her children, Jess (Kerry) Tydings, Colleen (Frank) Schlesinger, Kathy (Carl) Huskey, Wendy Brizendine, and JoAnne (Roger) Newsom; grandchildren, Jessica (Joe) Prewett, Jennifer (Brian) Johnson, Kurt Schlesinger, Amy (Nathan) Tuley, Kristy (Daniel) Ezzil, Johann Brizendine, Nathan (Jessica) Brizendine, Andy Brizendine, Juliane (Brandon) Brizendine-Vaughan, Danielle Helmig, and Jacob Hampton; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Olga; daughter, Sharon Hampton; and son-in-law, Gary Brizendine.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
