Shirley Ann (Roberts) Whitmire was born on February 17, 1936, in Joy, Missouri, to Earl Newton and Faye (Davis) Roberts. She grew up in
Licking, Missouri, and graduated with the class of 1954 from Licking High School.
On February 15, 1958, Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, William Charles Whitmire. They shared fifty-eight years of memories together before his passing on December 4, 2017. Shirley and Charles were blessed with two children: Chuck and Karen.
Shirley worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ted Ziske for many years. Her primary role and her primary love were as a devoted wife and dedicated mother. She was an excellent cook and loved spending time making memories with her family. Shirley cherished her grandchildren and treasured her great-grandchildren.
In her early years, Shirley loved collecting antiques and visiting Antique Stores. She took great pride in maintaining her yard with her beautiful Red Bud trees and flowers. She was very patriotic and proudly displayed the American flag.
Shirley was baptized in the Current River and raised at Joy Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the Salem United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, helped with Vacation Bible School, and was a part of UMW. Shirley was known as the "Apple Butter Queen" and served as chairman of the church's apple butter committee. She was a proud supporter of the community, she loved Grace Harbor, LovePack BackPack Program, and the wood bank. Shirley was a member of the Red Hat Society and Garden Club.
Shirley entered eternal rest on August 9, 2023, in
Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her loving children: Chuck Whitmire and wife Alhesha of Rolla, MO and Karen Carmier and husband Stewart of
Salem, MO; grandchildren: Kyle (Melanie) Whitmire, Ryan Whitmire, Tyler (Erica) Whitmire, Aimee Whitmire, Drew (Meredith) Carmier, Emily (Kyle) Huskey, Ethan (Caroline) Lane, and Miranda Lane; grandchildren by heart: Joe (Erin) Ragan and A.J. (Elizabeth) Angajala; great-grandchildren: Marek, Keira, Addyson, Aiden, Maylen, Kenley, Mila, Evelyn, Annalyn, Charles, Brooks, Maggie, Eleanor, and Avett; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Preceding her in death, loving husband: Charles Whitmire; daughter-in-law: Annette Whitmire; granddaughter: Jenny Carmier Summers; parents: Earl and Faye Roberts; father and mother-in-law: Clark and Dale Whitmire; and her siblings: Lloyd, Henry, Wayne, Dorothy, and Christine.
Shirley was beautiful inside and out with a heart of gold. She was a great encourager and will be deeply missed by those who loved her most.
Funeral Services for Shirley Ann (Roberts) Whitmire were held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry Baugh, Karen Carmier, and Pastor Chuck Whitmire officiating. Special Music was provided by David Hancock and additional song selection played was "Go Light Your World". Serving as Pallbearers were Tyler Whitmire, Kyle Whitmire, Ryan Whitmire, Drew Carmier, Aimee Whitmire, Marek Whitmire, and Aiden Summers. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of
Salem, Missouri.
