Shuming Zeng, a typical Chinese woman beloved by her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren passed away during her dozing off in her wheelchair at home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. She was 100 years old.
Shuming was born in Zhenhai County, Zhejiang Province, China. After graduating from primary school, she moved to Shanghai to receive secondary education. She received continuing education and obtained the Early Childhood Education Certificate from Shanghai Fourth Normal School after getting married and having four children. She immigrated to the United States in 2000. At the age of 80, she continued to engage in early childhood education in the US for nearly 10 years. She loved early childhood education and had rich experience in childcare. Throughout her life, she not only took care of her own four children by herself, but also took care of three grandchildren and a great-grandson in her old age. She enjoyed children's music and played the organ for children. In her spare time, she embroidered flowers on white cloth and knitted sweaters from wool thread. She had a strong religious belief and believed in God all her life and served as a missionary pioneer for many years in Shanghai, where religion was not free.
She met her late husband Hongnian Lin in 1936 and got married two years later, a marriage that lasted 71 years until his death in 2010.
Shuming is survived by her devoted children Bobo Lin of Concord, Hanxoing Lin of Shanghai, Hanjun Lin of Walnut Creek and grandchildren, Qin Zhu of Haworth, NJ, Ying Lin of Miami, FL, Diana Lin of L.A., Chao Lin of Pittsburg and great-grandchildren, Anthony Zhang of Michigan, Alex Zhang of New York, NY, Keahnu Lin-Chan of L.A. She is also survived by her sister Liyuan Zeng of Shanghai. Her generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Due to the pandemic, limited family members are invited to a funeral service on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:30 PM, at 3111 N. Main St., Walnut Creek, CA 94596.
