Sibyl Johnson

Sibyl Rae Johnson, 98, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away on April 30, 2023 at Premier Healthcare of New Harmony. She was born October 8, 1924 in Point Township, IN to the late James "Doug" and Beulah (Burlison) Wild.
Sibyl was one of the first employees at the McDonald's in Mt. Vernon when it opened in 1994. She worked there for 23 years before retiring at the age of 92. Sibyl was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and the Ladies Club and Quilters. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #5. Sibyl enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards especially clabber, cooking birthday dinners for her kids and grandkids and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Joseph Johnson in 1978; her parents in 1980; brother, James Wild; and sisters, Jeanette Summers and Eva Yeida; son, Dennis Johnson; son-in-law, Otis Hicks; great-granddaughters, Reece Hicks and Tatum Moore.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Hicks of Lebanon, OH, Kathy Cox (Bill) of Gallatin, TN, Jeff Johnson (Chris), Lisa Miller (Steve), Loni Moore (Larry), all of Mt. Vernon, IN; grandchildren, Chris Hicks, Andrea Brock, Laurie Hensley, Jamie Stevens, Jenna Johnson, Jordan Beach, Adam Miller, Nick Miller, Amanda Crowe, Matt Moore, Danielle Moore, Mike Johnson, Mindy Hensley and Marc Johnson; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 421 Mulberry St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand officiating and burial to follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church.
