Simon Peter Martin, 88 of Blountsville passed away Wednesday August 6, 2025, at Marshall Medical Center North. Mr. Martin was born October 1, 1936, in Blount County, the son of Elmer Thomas Martin and Myrtha Isabell Blackwell Martin. He was a graduate of J.B. Pennington High School and served 4 years in the US Navy. He and Helen Downer Martin were married on June 21, 1958. After serving in the Navy he worked as a railroad switchman for several years and later went to work at Redstone Arsenal where he worked for over 40 years before retiring. He continued to enjoy cattle farming and gardening until the end. He was a long-time member of Blountsville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife: Helen Martin; children: Michael Thomas Martin and wife, Pam; Martha Martin Yount and husband, Jim; Sarah Martin Webster and husband, Eric; grandchildren: Janine Martin McNair and husband, Sam; Andrew Martin and wife, Bonnie; Hannah Yount Chumley and husband, Ben, Meredith Yount, Scott Martin and wife, Kristen, Faulkner Webster, Sarah Yount and husband, Daren and Caleb Webster and fiancé, Sara Mae; great grandchildren: Nicholas McNair, Scarlett McNair, Tyler Martin, Lana Martin, Gracelyn Smith, Jack Thomas Martin expected in September 2025 and Gemma Mae Chumley expected in October 2025. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer Thomas and Myrtha Isabell Martin; son: James Peter Martin and his wife, Cynthia; siblings: Jack Elson Martin, James Allen Martin, Vida Elizabeth "Beth" Martin Grimwood, Ned B. Martin, William Henry Martin, Thomas Edward Martin, Robert Lee Martin, Sydney J. Martin, Daniel S. Martin, Sr., and Peggy Martin Johnston. Funeral Service was 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 9, 2025, at Blountsville Funeral Home with Brother Mike Carver officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Antioch Cemetery, Blountsville Funeral Home directing. Visitation was 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday August 8, 2025, at Blountsville Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Andrew Martin, Faulkner Webster, Sam McNair, Nicholas McNair, Daren Jones and Caleb Webster.
