Simone (Bourret) Simone, 86, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of 54 years to the late Bartolomeo J. Simone, who preceded her in death in 2020.
Simone leaves behind her two beloved daughters, Marie E. Simone and her fiancé Marek Filewicz, and Diane E. Simone, all of Worcester, who were the center of her world. She is also survived by her treasured sister, Theresa Baird and her husband Archie of Arizona, her wonderful sister-in-law Barbara Bourret of Taunton and many nieces and nephews whose lives were brightened by her warmth and generosity. In addition to her parents, Emile and Anita (Guillette) Bourret, Simone was predeceased by her dear brother, Phillip Bourret, whose memory she held close.
Born on November 27, 1938, in Worcester, Simone was a proud graduate of Holy Name of Jesus High School, Class of 1957. Her professional journey began as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone, and later she found deep purpose working as a school bus monitor for children with special needs. She retired from UMASS Medical Center’s EBS Department, where her kindness and dedication left a lasting impression.
Simone’s life was defined by compassion, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to family. She was a longtime member of the Mother’s Club at Adams Street School and the spirited Red Hat Society. Simone’s vibrant purple wardrobe reflected her joyful and youthfully mischievous demeanor. She adored dogs and treated every family pet with gentle affection and indulgence.
Simone’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her passions were many: baking and cake decorating, tending to her garden, solving word searches, and browsing the aisles of Spag’s. But above all, Simone found her greatest joy in gathering loved ones around the table. Her Italian cooking—passed down from her mother-in-law—was legendary, and her home was a haven of warmth and laughter. Summers spent at the family’s Charlestown, Rhode Island retreat and trips to Las Vegas with Bartolomeo and friends were among her most treasured memories.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A Funeral Service will follow on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with interment immediately after at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Family and friends are invited to begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Simone’s honor to the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, 26 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
