Simone Woodard was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on January 4, 1964, to Shirley Young. Though she did not grow up knowing her biological father, Simone later found fatherly love and guidance through Charles Young. She is

lovingly remembered by her sister, Minelle Young, her three children — Jamar, Glenn, and Camilla, her niece and nephew — Michael and Kenisha, and her cherished grandchildren — Jer’kiyi, Jamiya, and Glenn, who were the light of her life; special aunts, Elsie Robertson and Patricia Bell, and “uncle” Lou.

Simone gave her life to Christ Union Baptist Church. She knew God and was always open to prayer and was known to read the Our Daily Bread devotional.

Simone lived a life defined by strength, honesty, creativity, and love. A one-of-a-kind woman with a fearless spirit, Simone faced early health challenges and spent over a decade on dialysis. While her physical body endured daily battles, her spirit never dimmed. Her strength was honorable and inspiring. Even as her body endured pain, her will to live fully and connect deeply never wavered. She never allowed her circumstances to limit her joy, her voice, or her purpose. She fought through every challenge with quiet power, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, dignity, and grace. Though her physical body carried battle wounds, she continued to show up with laughter, compassion, and strength to family events and occasions. You would never know the magnitude of her daily battles, because she always led with love and light. She had a personality that was one of a kind. She was bold, stylish, and unapologetically real.

Simone stood out because she stood in truth, and lived life on her own terms and never followed someone else’s script. She was also strong, determined, and stubborn in the most loving way. Her humor carried its own genre of sarcasm and comedy. She loved a good joke and her laughter was contagious. All her loved ones can recall that you could get her to do almost anything with a Mountain Dew in hand.

Simone valued true connection and kept a circle of loved ones close. From her teenage years, she was known for welcoming friends into her home, especially those going through difficult times, offering a warm meal, laughter, and understanding. Her happiness flowed through others, whether in a lively game of cards, spades, or pool. She brought light to wherever she went. Later in life, she continued that same kindness. To those she welcomed close into her heart, she offered real love, real moments, and unwavering loyalty. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was always delighted to give unique and thoughtful gifts. This was another way she shared her heart. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play when they would visit her.

Simone lived life by her own rhythm and embraced life’s journey with a spirit of freedom. She was also always down for a trip or adventure, whether it was a quick getaway, a family visit, or simply exploring somewhere new, she loved being on the go and making memories with those she loved, especially with her sister and uncle Wesley.

Simone was an adventurer and she enjoyed living in Maryland and Georgia before returning to Delaware. Simone completed her education at Howard High School and later found fulfillment in clerical and administrative work, where her remarkable gift for organization and detail shone through. During her time at Herring Manor, she once decorated every table in the community room with flower arrangements, simply to lift the spirits of others. That thoughtful act reflected her essence and natural gift for creating beauty and comfort wherever she went. She moved through life with style and intention. During her younger years, she enjoyed sewing and styling her own clothes and always carried herself with pride and confidence. Even after leaving the workforce due to her health, she continued to pour her energy into the things she loved. She was exceptionally creative and found joy in crafting flower arrangements, candle designs, and custom door wreaths. She also enjoyed creating her own special food recipes.

Her greatest accomplishment was not found in titles or awards, but in who she was every day. She was protective, nurturing, loving, and powerful. She planted roots of strength, confidence, and unconditional love in her children. She taught them to trust themselves, believe in their power, and know they always had everything they needed to thrive.

She leaves behind a legacy in each heart she touched grounded in peace, love, and resilience. Simone held a quiet and deep relationship with herself, a self-love that allowed her to give freely and fully to others. She embraced hope, optimism, and faith that things would always work out. Her presence taught strength without harshness, courage without noise, and softness without weakness. She walked with grace, and even in pain, she always chose joy, connection, and laughter.

She was an angel on earth and heaven. Her love will forever be connected to us through memories, stories, laughter, and the strength she modeled. Her sense of humor, quiet strength, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her. And while her physical journey has ended, her spirit rests in peace, free and whole, forever carried in the hearts of those she loved.
