Sione Fangufangumana Latapu, 79, of Herriman, Utah, passed away on September 23, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his loved ones and family.
He was born on July 14, 1946, in Nomuka, Ha’apai, Tonga, to Samisoni Moala Latapu and Mele Tuitavuki Fahina. He attended Toloa College before marrying the love of his life, Anitilose Kava-Ha’apai Amalani. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Garry and Sione Latapu.
In 1980, he moved his family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was employed at Sorenson Research/Abbott Laboratories until his retirement in 1995. After retiring, he devoted his time fully to his family.
Sione found joy in the simple routines of life. A devoted member of the First Tongan Christian Church, he lived with faith, humility, and gratitude. His greatest passion was spending time with his church community and his grandchildren. A true patriarch, he leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, humility, and the values he instilled in all who knew him. His humble spirit and sweet presence will be deeply missed.
