Sondra Eiland Bailey passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in Cumming, Georgia at the age of 84. She was born and grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. She lived in the same neighborhood as her husband, Rollie, and the first time they met she knew she would marry him. They married in 1961 and lived in Auburn, Alabama where Rollie attended Auburn University. Rollie graduated in 1962 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Sondra and Rollie raised their three children (Gwen, Joey and Chad) in Decatur, Georgia. She was an involved mom who was a leader in PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church and sports activities. They moved to Cumming, Georgia in 1985 and were members of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Dunwoody High School after 25 years of service and worked for five years at Liberty Middle School in Cumming, Georgia.
Sondra was known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, traveling with Rollie in their RV, sitting on her beautiful porch watching birds and admiring her flowers and tailgating at Auburn football games. She was a beautiful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Sondra is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Rollie F. Bailey, Jr.; parents, Rudolph and Mary Eiland; son, Chad Bailey, and brother-in-law, Jim Storey.
Survivors include, children, Gwen Whitlock (Jeff) and Joey Bailey (Natalie); grandchildren, Brooke Whitlock (Jerrod), Chad Whitlock (Katelyn), Joseph Bailey (Lauren) and Jacob Bailey (Alyson); great-grandchildren, Eiland Duncan, Ellison Duncan and Bailey Duncan; sister, Pat Storey; sister-in-law, Ann Cassaras (Ronnie); nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m. ET at Ingram Funeral home in Cumming, Georgia. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. ET at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia with Rev. Craig Richard, Rev. Garry English, and Rev. Ruel Martin officiating. Sondra will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, Georgia.
